Breathe American: A Cross-Country Ride for Lung Health
I'm taking on one of the world's toughest endurance challenges, the Race Across America (RAAM) bicycle race, to raise critical funds for the American Lung Association to promote lung health. Join me in this incredible journey as Team Breathe America pedals across 3,000 miles of the United States, from the sunny shores of California to the bustling streets of New Jersey.
Breathe America is a team of eight cyclists (including me) and 20 crew (including my son, Levi Neiburger and my nephew, Samuel Shulman) raising more than $200,000 for lung health while completing this cross-country race. We will divide the eight cyclists into two groups of four. Each group will have an 8 to 14-hour shift. During the shift, each cyclist will take a turn riding alone, hard, for 20 minutes. After the cyclist completes his 20-minute turn, the other three will take their 20-minute turns. After the one-hour rest, the first cyclist will go out for his 20 minutes again. We repeat this pattern for the entire shift and then the other group takes over for their shift. We will do this for 7 to 8 days.
Why Lung Health Matters to Me
Lung diseases have profoundly affected my life. My grandmother died from lung cancer, my spouse's struggles with asthma compounded by long COVID, and the countless clients I've worked with in my Elder Law Practice who suffer from COPD have ignited a passion within me to make a difference. I've witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of these diseases, and I'm determined to help find a cure.
